Methanol is a light, volatile, colorless, flammable, liquid with a distinctive alcoholic odor similar to that of ethanol (potable alcohol). Used as a denaturant for alcohol, solvent, antifreeze and an additive for fuel. Care should be exercised when handling as it is highly toxic by ingestion and absorption through skin.

Applications
Methanol is a simple polar protic solvent commonly encountered as a gasoline additive. It finds use as a versatile solvent able to dissolve both polar and nonpolar compounds. Methanol also can be used as an alcohol denaturant.
