Propylene glycol is a widely employed food additive and polymer feedstock. It has favorable thermal properties coupled with a low melting point and high boiling point, making it useful as an antifreeze and de-icer. PG also finds wide use in drug delivery systems, as a solvent in many pharmaceutical preparations including oral, injectable and topical formulae.
